We Can’t Ignore
In this series, I layer coral reefs and fish onto figures using vivid hues to highlight the beauty of the ocean, which is being threatened every day by human activity and rising ocean temperatures. I chose to highlight corals because its destruction is almost easy to ignore - it's out of sight and mind for most. We depend on corals for food, protection from storm surges, development of new medicine, climate regulation and more while 25% of life in the ocean depend on corals for shelter, breeding, and food. Through my paintings, I aim to highlight our connection to these creatures and raise awareness about their vital importance in our lives and the planet. I hope to illuminate the beauty of our planet, inviting viewers to reflect on their role in its preservation.
These paintings are created with water-mixable oil paints to remove the use of harmful solvents.
